In periodontitis with deep bone loss, laser alone may not be enough; flap surgery or curettage may also be needed. Traditional methods may offer equivalent results in suitable cases.

Comparison with Other Periodontal Methods

Curettage focuses on root-surface cleaning; laser may not replace it. Gingivectomy and contouring can be performed with scalpel or laser; choice is case-based. Graft surgery can be supported by laser, but the graft itself requires a surgical protocol.

The most suitable method is determined after examination; treatment is not reduced to a single technology. Laser suitability is assessed after clinician examination.

Care and Follow-up

After laser treatment, gentle hygiene and mouthwash use according to clinician advice are recommended. Sensitivity or colour change in the first days may be temporary. Healing and gum line are assessed at review.

Smoking may negatively affect soft-tissue healing. Long-term outcome depends on hygiene and regular periodontal maintenance.

Laser choice alone does not determine the treatment plan; periodontal examination, pocket measurement and radiographic findings are assessed together.
